Welcome
The Kiwanis Club of Elmira was chartered in 1974, and has since grown into a vibrant, involved community service club with approximately 35 members, We raise money through a variety of events, including the Elmira Lobsterfest, Maple Syrup Festival, the Wellesley Apple Butter and Cheese Festival and, of course the Kiwanis Dragon Boat Festival of Waterloo Region.
Some of the worthwhile community causes we support include Meals on Wheels, Kiwanis Transit, the West Montrose Christmas Carol Sing, the Elmira Youth Centre, Elmira Seniors' day facility, Kiwanis Goodwill food drive, Adopt-a-Road, Adopt-a-Creek, Woolwich Interfaith Counselling, the Elmira Kiwanis Music Festival, and many more. We have also funded and built several playgrounds throughout Elmira and the surrounding area.
A large portion of the funds from the Dragon Boat Festival goes to support the Grand River Hospital's Childbirth programs. Over the past seven years, this event has contributed over $100,000 to the hospital. We expect our new pledge program to multiply those numbers over the coming years! Another portion goes to the Woolwich Memorial Centre.
Although Kiwanis' focus is children, and particularly children under age of five, our club's unwritten mandate is to support the most worthwhile causes related to any group in our community. As you can see, we have a very active and involved membership!
